History

 Ladies of Larkspur (LOL) was born out of the desire for friendships and a sense of community within the local area. Many women had these desires, so the decision was made in 2021 to begin forming a social group that would meet these needs.  At the first LOL gathering attendees identified the desire for book groups, crafts, games, field trips and fitness as good starting places upon which to build a foundation. Around that same time an Executive Committee was created to oversee the organization and a Facebook page was launched. As word spread, new members began joining and expressing desires for more activities such as a morning coffee club, bunco and hiking groups. The first social event was created at the December holiday time and included an ornament and cookie exchanges and a donation drive for Toys for Tots.

By 2022 LOL’s sense of community involvement created the Lifting Up Our Community group which focused on the larger community’s need for philanthropic support. Non-profit organizations were identified, and their needs were addressed. A voluntary dues structure was implemented and a membership in the Larkspur Chamber of Commerce, was also created.  Also, that December LOL adopted a tree for the holidays, and a 2-mile stretch of roadway along Highway 105 for “Trashy Ladies” for quarterly cleanup. During 2022 the group grew to well over 200 ladies

2023 was a year of continued growth with LOL adding more activity groups and more local non-profit organizations to support. By 2024 the Executive Committee realized that LOL needed to become its own non-profit so it applied to become a 501(c) 7 – a non-profit social club. Acceptance of this application was obtained in July of 2024 which gave LOL legal entity status with its own By Laws and Articles of Incorporation, officer structure and bank account. As an incorporated non-profit, LOL needed to obtain liability insurance. As a result of this expense (and other growth related expenses such as the creation and maintenance of its own website and the purchase of its own PO box), annual dues of $20 were required. Also, in 2024 more activities and groups were created to further meet the needs of this growing and thriving group.

Governance

In July 2024 LOL received its nonprofit status and as such was incorporated as a 501(c) (7)- a social group. The defined purpose of LOL is to provide opportunities for social interaction, recreational activities, mutual support and community enrichment.

Currently LOL has an Executive Committe of seven members: four officers and three at-large members who meet on a monthly basis to oversee various groups and their related activities, to review the organization’s finances, approve new members and organize special events.
